Be a Signature Gatherer =Circulator =Petition Circulator

Many people prefer a place where they can sign. Read and see if this is something you can do otherwise Get Involved another way.

✔ be at least 18 years of age or older.

✔ witness the signing of the petition.

✔ each signature is the genuine signature of the person.

✔ fill out the Declaration of Circulator and it is true and correct. 

✔ show the Official Top Funders sheet.

You do NOT have to:

X be a US citizen.2

X be a registered voter.2

X be a registered of California.2

X live in the same county where signers live.

Do NOT

X Give money/items of value in exchange for signatures. Example: cannot have candy on your table to give out. 

X Taking money to stop collecting signatures. (Elec. Code, § 9607.)”2

X Copy or use the signer’s information for any reason. “[T]he prohibition of the use of signatures on an initiative petition for a purpose other than qualification of the proposed measure for the ballot. (Elec. Code, § 9607.)”2

If someone offers you money you must direct them to the Donation link as per California Fair Political Practices Commission laws data must be obtained from the donor.

Highly encouraged to wear a badge that reads: Unpaid Volunteer.  Also reported better interactions with signers when wearing it. 

If this is your very first time or you're experienced come to a class. Have learned that all those who say they've done SG did NOT know all the rules.

STEP 1 Write full name of COUNTY you registered to vote in

STEP 2 Official Top Funders signer must see then signs Print out a new one monthly.

STEP 3 Declaration of Circulator (=DC) fill in EVERYTHING

STEP 4 Then sign your signature

STEP 5 REVIEW PETITION ACCURACY

STEP 6 WHEN FINISHED MAIL or DROP OFF

NO abbreviations. Exception are Sr., etc. and Apt. And CA for California in the DC.

If the signer makes a mistake NO CROSS OUTS. Have them put the correct information next to their mistake. If they cross out all their info (the wrote in the wrong County, for example) end that petition. Fill out the DC later. Give the signer a new petition.

If a person will have difficulty filling in the petition have them fill out a 3 signature box petition. Call us for further instruction.

Letter holds 3 signatures, Legal 1 sided, 8. Legal 2 sided 18 signature boxes.

To obtain legal size must attend class. YOU PRINT on LEGAL SIZE 8.5 x 14 paper. To get legal size and/or you want to be an SG, fill out Signature Gatherer Form.

• If asked the Proponents of both campaigns is: United Organization of Taxpayers. There are NO paid Signature Gatherers.
• We are FIX PROP 19 not REPEAL Prop 19 as there are GOOD parts to Prop 19 and we do not want to alienate those who benefit from the portability - that will NOT CHANGE if #FixProp19 wins.
• Fix Prop 19 ID Number 25-0017. RVR ID# 25-0019A.
• If you make any marketing, flyers, education materials, etc. must includes words to the effect of: made by an unpaid volunteer.
• As of 2/4 all volunteers - no paid Signature Gatherers.

Fill out the Declaration of Circulator in its entirety. Send us back the petition. We do NOT need any other paper from the Petition Package.

Return ASAP so we can reach 25% reporting number

Do not hold unto the petition until the end. When 25% (218,660 signatures) is reached we are entitled to a Legislative hearing- maybe they can help us. Petitions released Nov. 2025.  Check petition page for updates. When we get closer we will announce with enough time for you to return. If we have Satellite Sites we can extend the deadline.
