If you care about Prop 13, you’ll care about Fixing Prop 19, a.k.a."Repeal the Death Tax.".
After Prop 13 passed property owners continued to see real estate values skyrocket so they passed Props 58 and 193. This enabled heirs to inherit property without massive tax increases. Prop 19 gutted these rights. The first blow to getting rid of Prop 13 completely.
Are you even aware that your California property rights (Prop 58) were stripped away with the passage of Prop 19 in 2020 (effective February 2021)? Which means, if you planned on leaving your family home to your children, they may not be able to afford their new property tax based on reassessment to MARKET RATE. Some are forced to sell. Most trusts will NOT protect this asset! The idea that you are protected by an estate plan or deed is not usually the case.
High Prop 19 taxes also impact renters when those taxes are passed on through rent increases. Family business property can be sharply impacted as now it's reassessed to market value and new taxes are based on that amount.
There is a lot to cover, so I urge you to go to ForCalifornians.com AND SIGN UP for updates, and volunteer if you want any chance of getting your property rights back.
It's also very important that everyone signs up with the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association (HJTA) as they are the primary sponsor for reinstating our Prop 58 rights. If they don't see enough interest they will not spearhead a third attempt
And beware. Many groups are trying to get rid of Prop 13 entirely. Passing Prop 19 was the first blow. attempts to get rid of Prop 13. It’s crucial that Californians know what is happening. SHARE THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR NETWORK NOW!
Join our weekly Zoom Thursday 7 pm meetings to learn, ask questions and tell us how you are impacted.
I am a constituent and I care about Fixing Prop 19. Do you also want to Fix Prop 19?
Because I won't vote for you unless you support Fix Prop 19.
Families are being devastated by Prop 19. Many will be forced to sell their homes, busnesses and rentals. Critical workers are struggling to pay rent or a mortgage. Teachers, nurses, service employees, artists, dog walkers, baristas, caregivers, the neighborhood restaurant and grocery store - they will suffer from high Prop 19 taxes one way or another. Read their stories here.
I implore you to take a stand and fight for Californians' property rights.
Thank you.
