Proposition 19 can make property taxes unaffordable when property passes from parent to child. Creating financial and housing insecurity through higher taxes. Reinstate intergenerational property transfer rights. #FixProp19!
Before Prop 19, property passed to child or grandchild, was reassessed and the property tax did not immediately increase because of Propositions 58 and 193 protections against higher taxes. This created affordable housing and fostered small business growth.
After Prop 19, the property is passed, reassessed and in many cases a higher amount of yearly property tax is now due. Many cannot afford the sudden and sometimes over 1,000% increase in property taxes and have to sell.
Voters were deceived by Prop 19's advertising and no mention in the Title or Summary that Propositions 58/193 would be removed. History of Prop 19, ads, voter guide and more.
FixProp19, Reinstate 58 and Repeal the Death Tax are all the same movement.

EXAMPLE Forty years ago, your parents paid $100,000 for their home. Today it's worth $2.5M. Here is how an inheriting child's taxes can become unaffordable.
In this example, taxes have climbed from $3,000 to $25,000. That's before local taxes and bonds have been added on top!
*You can apply for a limited exemption on the parental home if you qualify. No exemptions on other property - rentals, second homes or family business property.
