Howard Jarvis was a key "mover and shaker" who helped get Prop 13 passed in the 1970s. Now the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association (HJTA) is championing the move to keep Prop 13 alive. There are many groups within California who want to dismantle Prop 13. Prop 19 was a major step in that direction.
HJTA is the main sponsor of Repeal the Death Tax to Fix Prop 19. They create, print and count all the petitions. This included counting the roughly 560K petitions received for the latest (failed) attempt to get this on the 2024 ballot. While they got 40% more than previously, we were still short. Therefore Repeal the Death Tax to Fix Prop 19 did not make it. It will not be on the 2024 ballot.
They have asked everyone who wants to get this on the 2026 ballot to sign-up with them for updates and to get an emailed petition IF THEY DECIDE TO TRY A THIRD TIME. IF THEY DON'T GET ONE MILLION SIGN-UPS THEY MOST LIKLEY WILL NOT TRY AGAIN. IF THIS HAPPENS IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY FIX PROP 19 WILL EVER HAPPEN
